Texas Basketball: Predicting next 2022 commit after Dillon Mitchell
New head coach Chris Beard and the 2022 Texas basketball recruiting class landed a massive addition on the night of Oct. 25 in the form of the elite five-star Montverde Academy small forward Dillon Mitchell (formerly of Bishop McLaughlin Catholic). Texas now has two commits in the 2022 class, both of which are from five-star recruits.
The first commit that Beard and the Longhorns landed in the 2022 class was five-star Dallas-Kimball point guard Arterio Morris. Texas landed Morris back on July 17, 2021.
Despite potentially missing out on a good portion of the Longhorns’ top targets of the 2022 class, Beard and his staff have recovered well to put together a solid duo in this group. Texas has missed on key five-star prospects of late such as shooting guard Keyonte George, forward Emoni Bates, power forward Kijani Wright, and likely combo guard Cason Wallace.
What’s next for Texas basketball recruiting in the 2022 class after landing 5-Star SF Dillon Mitchell?
But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Beard and the Longhorns won’t be able to land everyone. And holding commitments from two of the top-30 ranked 2022 high school prospects in the nation to start off this recruiting class is still a fantastic result thus far.
Given all of the activity that the Longhorns had in the NCAA Transfer Portal during the offseason, it’s hard to tell exactly how many more prospects Beard will want to take in the 2022 class. It’s safe to assume that adding one more blue-chip would clearly be favorable.
But three feels like a good target number to assume for the Longhorns in the 2022 class, depending on which players on the current roster stick through the upcoming season.
With that in mind, here’s a look into who the next commit up in the Longhorns 2022 class could be after landing Mitchell early this week.
