One particular target of the Longhorns 2022 class that could soon be zoning in on a decision for his commitment is the underrated three-star Harrison Central (MS) power forward Sam Murray. The Gulfport, MS, native Murray has what looks to be a pretty set in stone top three schools at this point of his recruitment.

It looks like Texas is competing with the Baylor Bears and Mississippi State Bulldogs to land the commitment of Murray. That will be some tough competition given Baylor’s strength on the recruiting trail of late, and the grip that Mississippi State looks to have on this talented in-state product.

As one of the more switchable and potent forwards that is still remaining uncommitted that the Longhorns have already offered, Murray is someone that is worth prioritizing in the coming weeks and months for Beard and his staff. Murray might have one of the highest ceilings of any three-star prospect in this entire recruiting cycle.

And that is likely a major reason why Beard and the Longhorns sent an offer to Murray in the first place. The Texas offer originally went out to Murray on May 13, 2021. He is another one of the earlier offers in the 2022 recruiting cycle from Beard and his staff after they were hired back in April and early May.

If Texas is able to put some additional effort and energy into the pursuit of Murray, that could be enough to make things really interesting between the Longhorns and Bulldogs. Texas assistant coach Ulric Maligi is the primary recruiter going after Murray. This would be a nice win on the trail for Maligi and the Longhorns were Murray to eventually land on the Forty Acres.
