One of the hottest storylines surrounding Texas football recruiting since the summer remains the pursuit of the commitment of the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning. New head coach Steve Sarkisian, quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns have sat among the apparent favorites to eventually land a commitment from Manning whenever a decision comes from him.

Sark and the Longhorns are facing tough competition, though, from programs like the Alabama Crismon Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, and LSU Tigers, among other schools. Texas is going to have to continue to put all they have into the recruitment of Manning and show more signs of success to come on the field.

As much as it sounds like the relationship between the likes of Sark, Milwee, and Manning (along with his entire family) is strong, Texas will need more than that to beat out Alabama and Georgia. Texas needs to show that this is going to be a football program that can continue to elevate the career of Manning, and puts him in the best spot possible before he takes his talents to the NFL.

Texas football a betting favorite to land 5-Star QB Arch Manning

That is why the loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys and head coach Mike Gundy hurt so much two weekends ago. Manning was on campus for a key visit during that game weekend on Oct. 16, and the Longhorns had a pretty massive second-half collapse for the second week in a row to lose to a ranked Oklahoma school out of the Big 12.

Despite the loss to Oklahoma State, Texas still seems to be one of the two or three favorites at the moment to land the commitment from Manning. One Sportsbook reportedly even has Texas as the favorite to land Manning when a decision comes down from him.

Texas is reportedly the betting favorite over the likes of the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs. The Longhorns are the favorite, with Georgia, Alabama, and the Ole Miss Rebels, coming in as the next three top schools (in that order).

Texas is still seeking out its first commit in the 2023 class. And it would be quite the way to start off the 2023 class by keeping a commitment from the nation’s top-ranked 2023 high school prospect in the Louisiana native Manning.
