Texas Football: 3 players that are ice cold during losing streak
Casey Thompson, QB
Redshirt junior quarterback Casey Thompson was on absolute fire coming out of the gates when he took the starting job from sophomore Hudson Card following the loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks back on Sep. 11. But he’s slowed down in the last few games, including some rather pedestrian outings in the last two weeks.
I’m not really including the outing for Thompson in the loss to Oklahoma. He was magnificent statistically in that game, the Texas offense just couldn’t get it going late. In the loss to Oklahoma, Thompson tossed five touchdowns along with 388 passing yards, with no interceptions.
But in the last two games, Thompson had three passing touchdowns, three interceptions, 459 passing yards, and the worst passer efficiency rating of any two-game stretch of the season. He also wasn’t very good statistically dating back to the close win against the TCU Horned Frogs in early October.
Thompson was better for the Longhorns in the Baylor game than against Oklahoma State. The Oklahoma State game was a stinker on his part, but he at least played better last weekend.
The completion percentage has really dropped out from under Thompson of late. He’s got a completion percentage hovering around 56.0 in the last two games, along with four turnover-worthy plays, and he’s not really hitting on many throws more than 10 yards out of late either.
