It’s not looking great right now for new Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. Texas is now sitting on a three-game losing streak and have lost multiple former blue-chip recruits to the NCAA Transfer Portal in the last few weeks. And more losses to the transfer portal could be on the way in the near future for Texas.

According to a report from 247Sports on Nov. 3, redshirt junior wide receiver Joshua Moore now has his status with the Longhorns in doubt after practice this week. Moore reportedly had a spat with the coaching staff and could now be thinking about leaving the team soon.

Granted, we don’t know for sure yet if Moore will be done with the Longhorns, or if he will officially enter the transfer portal anytime soon. But no matter how you look at it, the situation is getting pretty dire in the receiving corps for Texas in the final month of the regular season.

Texas football could now be without Joshua Moore

Texas is already down the former elite five-star recruit and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordan Whittington with injury. Whittington could miss most of the rest of the regular season, at the very least, it seems.

And Texas is struggling to find traction in the passing game with really any of their other wideouts on a consistent basis. Freshman Xavier Worthy had a stellar first year in college thus far, but even he has experienced some inconsistencies this fall.

Losing Moore could further cripple the strength of the Texas receiving corps. He is the second most heavily targeted receiver this season with Whittington down with injury.

So far this season, Moore has registered 22 catches for 233 receiving yards (just over 10 yards per catch), good for three touchdown catches. And since the start of last season, Moore registered 52 catches for around 700 receiving yards and nine touchdown catches.

Even if you consider Whittington’s production prior to his injury this season, Moore still ranks second in targets in the passing game this season with 42. But he does lead the team in drop percentage this season, on pace to drop around a dozen out of every 100 passes that go his way.

With or without Moore, the Longhorns are set to take on the Iowa State Cyclones on the road in Ames on the night of Nov. 6. Texas will carry a record of 4-4 (2-3 Big 12) and a three-game losing streak into that meeting with Iowa State coming off their 31-24 loss on the road at the hands of the No. 16 ranked Baylor Bears last weekend.
