There’s a lot of movement going on right now with the Longhorns at the wide receiver position in the 2022 and 2023 classes. There might not be a single other position group, outside of the offensive line, for the Longhorns in these two classes that is under as much of a microscope lately as wide receiver.

And a big reason for that in the 2023 class is the four-star wideout duo of DeSoto product Johntay Cook and Flower Mound-Marcus product Ashton Cozart. The 6-foot-3 and 180-pound Cozart already exudes a lot of the qualities that Sark and the Longhorns are looking for out of a talented wideout that can play on the outside.

Texas quickly emerged as one of the top schools for Cozart this year. Some of the other top schools to watch in his recruitment are the TCU Horned Frogs, Miami Hurricanes, Florida Gators, and Oklahoma. Texas and Oklahoma could be the two schools that this recruitment ultimately boils down to.

Cozart had multiple key visits with the Longhorns, Sooners, and the Florida schools, since the summer months. But Texas might be able to pull ahead in the not-too-distant future if second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman can start to seal the deal this fall.

Immediate playing time should surely be an effective pitch that Coleman can make to Cozart. And helping to establish a more solid pipeline of wide receiver talent in the mold of what Sark is looking for can also help to get a commitment out of Cozart.
