Texas Football: Alfred Collins undergoes scary injury vs. ISU
In the second half of the matchup between Texas football and the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames on the night of Nov. 6, some upper-body injuries were apparent for some defensive linemen. Texas saw the former elite five-star recruit and sophomore defensive end/edge rusher Alfred Collins go down with what looked to be a scary shoulder injury first.
And then, it was junior defensive tackle and the former underrated three-star recruit T’Vondre Sweat that went down with an injury against Iowa State. These injuries happened within a few downs of each other too.
Texas went rather injury-free for the first half of this matchup against Iowa State. But between Texas and Iowa State, there were a good number of injuries that happened in this game. It just seemed like that type of game, especially for those along the defensive front for each side.
The good news for Texas was the fact that neither Collins nor Sweat had to be carted off. Sweat did apparently get up quicker than Collins, but both had apparent upper-body injuries in the third quarter.
Texas football sees injuries to Alfred Collins, T’Vondre Sweat vs. Iowa State
Both Sweat and Collins have played big roles in the defensive line of late for the Longhorns and new co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski. Collins came into the Iowa State game with 17 combined tackles on the season, five tackles for loss, two sacks, and one forced fumble.
Meanwhile, Sweat came into this game with multiple quarterback pressures, nearly zero missed tackles, 17 combined tackles, one tackle for loss, no sacks, and two pass breakups, on the season. Sweat is one of those players that really made an untold impact for the Texas defensive line since the start of Big 12 play this fall.
Hopefully, both Sweat and Collins will be alright for the Longhorns. This defensive front needs all the help they can get during a critical November stretch. Texas had a very forgettable month in October, and the Iowa State game is not going well for this team right now to start off the November slate.
Texas is currently down to Iowa State by a score of 24-7 as this game starts to get away from Sark and the Longhorns. The second half was a problem, but so was the first half, in a change of pace for the Longhorns this weekend.
