Among the most embarrassing losses in recent memory for the Texas football program happened for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his team on the night of Nov. 6. Texas fell short to head coach Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones in a tough spot on the road in Ames at Jack Trice Stadium by the convincing final score of 30-7.

There was really nothing that could go right again for Sark and the Longhorns in the second half. Texas did carry a 7-3 lead into the locker room at halftime, and it really appeared that the team had something going after making the quarterback switch in the first half. The Texas offense did look better initially when Sark made the change from redshirt junior quarterback Casey Thompson to sophomore Hudson Card.

Card did technically get a touchdown pass on the night, but it was on essentially a pitch on a jet sweep to standout freshman wide receiver Xavier Worthy. It just happened to be a forward pass counted as a touchdown for Card.

Switching Hudson Card for Casey Thompson doesn’t save Texas football vs. Iowa State

It will be interesting to see what, if any, changes Sark makes for the Longhorns ahead of what should be the game that breaks this losing skid. Texas takes on head coach Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks at home at DKR on Nov. 13. Hopefully, that will be the end of all of this losing for the Longhorns.

But here’s a look into three overreactions from yet another second-half collapse in the embarrassing 23-point loss to Iowa State on Nov. 6.
