Maybe the most important remaining visit weekend of the fall for the 2022 and 2023 Texas football recruiting classes lies on tap on Nov. 13 as new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his squad get set to take on the Kansas Jayhawks. Texas is looking to snap a four-game losing skid against Kansas this coming weekend in front of an important set of visiting prospects.

Sark and the Longhorns have a growing list of visitors set to be in Austin this weekend. And one of the more recent additions is a very intriguing name for the Longhorns 2022 class. According to a report confirmed by Horns247 (paid content) on Nov. 8, Texas is set to host the Oregon Ducks commit and elite five-star Summer Creek (TX) offensive tackle Kelvin Banks this weekend for the Kansas game.

As time moves along since Banks committed to Oregon back in early July, Texas and the Texas A&M Aggies have continued to press to flip his commitment. Texas has also stayed on trying to flip the commitment of another Oregon offensive tackle commit in the 2022 class, and three-star Duncanville product Cameron Williams.

This could be a major sign of progress if the Longhorns can make the right impression on Banks this weekend. The 6-foot-5 and 300-pound offensive tackle was one of the top prospects on the board for the Longhorns at one point in time. And since he committed to Oregon, Texas has kept staying in contact with him as a priority.

It looks like the Longhorns coaching staff did a nice job keeping the relationship and contact building with Banks in recent months. New offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks are doing a good job still working to flip the commitment of Banks as his top recruiters.

Banks did have a visit to Texas A&M for a game weekend earlier this month. If there are any schools that have the ability to flip Banks if he does want to stay closer to home, it is Texas and Texas A&M.

But the main goal right now for both Texas and Texas A&M will be even getting Banks interested enough in staying closer to home to feel like he should de-commit from Oregon. Then, a battle could ensue between these two big in-state football programs.

Banks did get a slight bump in the latest recruiting rankings update. He now ranks as the nation’s No. 14 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 offensive tackle, and No. 5 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite).
