The deepest forward group in all of college basketball?

It really is hard to believe the amount of depth in the forward rotation that Beard and the Longhorns possess heading into this season. Texas already got some forward depth coming into the program in the form of the former touted four-star recruit and Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex native Jaylon Tyson, by way of the 2021 signing class.

But it’s going to be difficult for Tyson to even fight his way into the top six or seven spots in the rotation in terms of minutes early this season. He’s competing with the likes of key transfers such as former Creighton forward Christian Bishop, Cunningham, Febres, and former Utah forward Timmy Allen.

Depending on how Beard wants to allocate the minutes among all of the talented and proven wings/forwards that he has in this rotation, it could be a tough task to juggle all of these players. He’s got three or four starting-caliber forwards to play at the three and the four in what should be a huge luxury for his staff.

I would personally expect Beard now to come out with the former Utah Utes standout forward and two-time All-PAC-12 Team selection Allen starting at the three. Allen can play at the three or the four, though. Bishop can do much of the same for the Longhorns this season.

If nothing else, there’s a ton of talent, potential, and versatility present among all of these wings and forwards that Beard has at his disposal this season. When Texas faces tough opponents such as Tennessee and Gonzaga, or in the thick of difficult portions of the Big 12 slate, all of this depth will really come in handy for Beard and his staff.
