More scorers present to boost the offensive production

The last position group that we didn’t really dig into yet that can help to make this team special in the season ahead is the backcourt. Texas also has a switchable group of two-guards/wings that can be very versatile in the rotation this season for Beard and his staff. And there’s a duo of new guard additions that could be valuable pieces of the backcourt unit this season also.

The most notable of the new guard additions for Beard and the Longhorns out of the transfer portal this season is the former Minnesota Golden Gophers and Pitt Panthers standout redshirt junior guard Marcus Carr. As a potential contender for the Naismith and Wooden Awards this season, Carr will play a big role in any success that the Longhorns find this season.

Having the caliber of two-way guard and volume scoring-guard that Carr can be for Texas this season is surely going to lift the ceiling that Beard’s group can reach offensively. If Carr is good smart with his shot selection this season, the sky really is the limit for Texas on the offensive end of the floor.

We still can’t overlook, though, how important the likes of Ramey, Febres, Jones, and the former Kentucky freshman transfer guard Devin Askew, will be to this backcourt unit.

Expect Ramey and Carr to be the starting guards for the Longhorns this season. Carr will probably be the higher-usage player between him and Ramey. And it wouldn’t be too surprising if he was the primary initiator for this offense either.
