Steve Sarkisian needs a culture change more than Charlie Strong and Tom Herman ever did

The more times Texas tries out a new head coach with this football program that is trying to recapture the better days of the past, the harder it will become to instill a permanent culture shift for the better. That is a problem that Sark is staring at right in the fact at this point of the 2021 season.

We can talk about it until every Texas fan turns blue in the face, Sark is going to need new personnel in the mix heading into next offseason. And I’m not really talking about the other coaches on his staff.

Sark is going to have to get some players that better fit the culture he wants to instill in this program. He’s going to need to make a bigger splash in the NCAA Transfer Portal compared to what he did last offseason. And the 2021 and 2022 signing classes are going to need to have some early impact players rise to the occasion.

Former Texas head coaches Tom Herman and Charlie Strong did have the need to get the cultures they wanted to instill in this program in place when they headed up the program. But neither of those wound up working out over the long haul. This is now Sark’s crack at things.

Herman and Strong both had their fair share of struggles getting their ideals instilled in this program. Getting that task accomplished quicker than those two will go a long way to finding more consistent success and find more sustained positive results on the recruiting trail over the long haul. If Herman and Strong showed us anything, it’s the fact that you can find blips of success on the field and on the recruiting trail without having a permanent culture established, but it won’t last.
