Denver Harris, CB

The success of the cornerback position in the Longhorns 2022 class now largely hinges on the ability of this staff to close the deal on the elite five-star North Shore corner, Denver Harris. After losing the commitment of four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau to the TCU Horned Frogs a couple of months ago, the 2022 class is without any blue-chips at the position.

At the moment, the lone true cornerback commit in the 2022 class is three-star Warren Easton product, Ronald Lewis. Texas is going to have to add more depth at the cornerback position somehow ahead of next offseason if they want to be strong in the secondary moving forward.

Texas did not fare too well so far this season at the cornerback position, despite bringing back some senior depth in the form of D’Shawn Jamison, Josh Thompson, and Darion Dunn.

This is going to be a four-horse race to land the commitment of Harris. And it’s anticipated that we’re going to see a decision come down from him around the Early Signing Period. The three other schools to watch in the race to land a commitment from Harris are the LSU Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Texas very much appears to be hanging around in this race to land Harris. And further impressing him will be important if they want to beat out the other three schools in his top group. At the moment, it feels like Alabama and Texas could still be the top two for Harris. But that could change still in the coming weeks. He’s mostly kept quiet on his intentions for his decision this year.
