Texas Football: 4 most important visiting recruits vs. Kansas
Devon Campbell, IOL
Throughout most of his recruitment, it looked like Texas was the top dog in the race to land a commitment from the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell. But there was some new competition that crept up of late for Texas to try and establish itself as the firm top school for Campbell.
Texas is now going to have to fend off the likes of the USC Trojans, Oklahoma Sooners, and Alabama. Similar to the case with Harris, Texas and Alabama could very likely be the top two schools at this point in the running to land a commitment from Campbell.
The problem for the Longhorns here is the fact that it appears that they have slipped up in recent months. The struggles on the field have greatly impacted the Longhorns’ standing with a number of their top remaining blue-chip targets in the 2022 class, including Campbell.
Winning out down the stretch could be important for Texas to get back in the good graces of Campbell.
Granted, it’s hard to tell how a top two or three is exactly lining up with Campbell right now. He was a bit more vocal throughout his recruitment than Harris, but not by much.
This weekend will be crucial for new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood to tighten the relationship with Campbell. As we inch closer to the Early Signing Period, Texas needs to start sealing the deal with him. Expect a decision from both him and Harris around the Early Signing Period next month.
