Texas still appears to very much be in the running to try and flip the commitment of the talented four-star Corner Canyon (UT) quarterback and USC pledge Devin Brown at this point of the fall. Just a couple of months ago, it first appeared that Sark, new quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns were interested in trying to flip the commitment of Brown.

USC held the commitment of Brown for more than a full calendar year now. Brown originally committed to USC back on Sep. 19, 2020. But the race to flip his commitment is heating up more so than ever before after USC fired now-former head coach Clay Helton a couple of months ago.

The official Texas scholarship offer went Brown’s way back on Oct. 18. And it didn’t take too long for Texas to get him on the books for an official visit this fall. This official visit this weekend for the Kansas game in Austin looks to be the final one ahead of the Early Signing Period for Brown.

Getting the final word in Brown’s recruitment in terms of potential in-person visits could be crucial for Sark, Milwee, and the Longhorns.

Since taking on a second quarterback appears to be a big priority now for the Longhorns in the 2022 class, flipping the commitment of Brown could be a staple for this group.

This is not necessarily to say that Texas isn’t bought into current four-star quarterback commit and Junipero Serra product Maalik Murphy. But getting the type of quarterback talent that Texas could sign in the 2022 class with the combination of Brown and Murphy could be too hard to pass up for this staff.
