Texas Football: 4 most important visiting recruits vs. Kansas
Kelvin Banks, OT
Definitely, one of the biggest misses on the recruiting trail since the summer months for Sark, Flood, and the Longhorns 2022 class came in the form of the elite five-star Summer Creek (TX) offensive tackle Kelvin Banks. Back on July 4, Texas and Texas A&M lost out on the race to land a commitment from Banks to the Oregon Ducks.
At least, they initially lost out on that race.
Now, Texas and Texas A&M are both still hoping to convince Banks to keep his talents in-state instead of going to PAC-12 country.
Texas lost the commitments of both Banks and underrated three-star Duncanville offensive tackle Cameron Williams to head coach Mario Cristobal and the Ducks in the span of just a few days back in the summer.
Getting this visit for the Kansas game this weekend with Banks is big for Texas, though. While it appears that Banks’ interests aren’t turning too far away from Oregon, Texas really needs to take advantage of every chance they get to make the right impression with Banks. And this might be the last in-person visit they get with him ahead of the Early Signing Period.
If a school like Texas or Texas A&M were able to flip the commitment of Banks, it would likely have to come before the Early Signing Period. So, if there’s any indication of something like this happening in the near future, we’re likely going to start hearing about it as soon as next week.
Banks did visit Texas A&M on that weekend last month when they downed then No. 1 ranked Alabama. That likely made a big impression on Banks. Beating Kansas won’t have the same type of moving power with Banks, and that is clear. But Texas can just make Banks feel at home and connected with the coaching staff one final time during a game weekend this fall when they face Kansas.
