News that the 2022 Texas football recruiting class didn’t want looks to now be happening involving the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart. The uber-talented and potent 6-foot and 175-pound former Texas commit now looks to be trending to a different school. And this is really the one school that Texas can’t afford to lose Stewart to on the recruiting trail.

There are now some leading indicators that give a pretty clear impression that Stewart is trending to head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies over the likes of the Longhorns and Florida Gators, among other schools. For about the last six months, it looked like Texas and Florida had emerged as the top two schools for Stewart.

But that narrative began to change in the month of November. Texas A&M made a very spirited run at Stewart exactly at the right time. Stewart has visited College Station twice in the last three weeks alone. That is not good news for the Longhorns.

Stewart had an unofficial visit to Texas A&M last weekend when the Aggies downed a top-15 ranked team in the Auburn Tigers. He also visited Texas A&M officially back on Oct. 22. That was the weekend where the Aggies decimated new head coach Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks at home at Kyle Field.

Given the recent momentum that the Aggies have found on the field, some of that success was bound to translate to the recruiting trail. That’s what led to a lot of recruiting analysts and/or writers giving their picks now for Stewart’s commitment to go to the Aggies.

The two latest 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions now have Stewart’s commitment going to Texas A&M. And the two most recent publisher picks in the Rivals FutureCast also have Texas A&M eventually landing Stewart’s pledge.

This is definitely something worth noting and something to worry about for Longhorns fans. Stewart is arguably the most important prospect remaining on the board for the Longhorns 2022 class just a few weeks ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period.

Texas did a good job for a while to fend off a good run from Florida to win over the interests of Stewart back in the summer. Now they will have to do the same with the Aggies.

Granted, this feeling is different with the connection between Stewart and the Aggies compared with the relationship he had with the Gators’ staff a few months back. Texas A&M feels like more of a firm connection with Stewart right now.

All in all, Texas definitely isn’t out of the running to land Stewart. But something is going to have to change in the coming days and weeks if Texas is still to ultimately get his commitment back in the 2022 class.

Texas does have a few blue-chip wide receiver commits in the 2022 class. But nothing would compare to landing a commitment from the nation’s No. 3 ranked 2022 high school prospect in Stewart.
