Chris Beard has done this before

Back during the 2018-19 season when Beard was the Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach, he was able to get the best of Few and the Zags by a six-point margin. Heading into that game, Beard and the Red Raiders were making that special run to the NCAA Tournament National Championship Game where they would eventually fall short at the hands of the Virginia Cavaliers and head coach Tony Bennett.

Texas Tech took down Few and the Zags in the West Region Final to continue that magical run during the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Beard has succeeded in spotlights like this one before. And taking to that underdog mentality is one that he usually succeeds with. Beard also succeed often when Texas Tech was ranked inside the AP Top 10 during his time in Lubbock.

When Texas Tech was ranked inside the AP Top 10 and faced other ranked opponents, Beard owns a record of 8-4. One of those wins for Beard also came over the Zags.

This team that Beard brings into to Spokane to battle Gonzaga is also arguably more talented and deep than any he ever had during his time in Lubbock. That fact can’t be overlooked heading into this key showdown between two top-five ranked teams.

Taking this type of mentality that Beard brings to the table for the Longhorns where he has been there and done that should help his team. Composure and confidence will be key for Texas in taking on a juggernaut like Gonzaga.
