Texas Football: 5-Star DL David Hicks visiting unofficially this weekend
On the night of Nov. 13, there will be multiple prospects that new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff host that are key targets of the 2022 and 2023 Texas football recruiting classes. As Texas takes on head coach Lance Leipold and the lowly Kansas Jayhawks at home at DKR on Nov. 13, it is almost more important what the coaching staff is able to do with the visiting recruits compared to what the team puts up on the scoreboard as long as they come away with a convincing victory.
Sark and the Longhorns have a pretty impressive and lengthy list of visitors as they take on the Jayhawks at home this weekend. And one of the key names to watch that is a huge target of the Longhorns 2023 class is the elite five-star Allen defensive lineman David Hicks.
According to a visitor list confirmed by Horns247 this weekend (paid content), Hicks will be one of the key unofficial visitors in attendance in Austin for the Kansas game on the night of Nov. 13. With how many unofficial visits Hicks took to College Station to see the rival Texas A&M Aggies and head coach Jimbo Fisher since the summer, this is a critical unofficial for the Longhorns to get.
Texas football will host 5-Star 2023 DL David Hicks for the Kansas game
Hicks was in attendance last weekend in College Station as the Aggies took down a top-15 ranked opponent in the Auburn Tigers. While the ramifications of the Texas-Kansas game are not the same as the Texas A&M-Auburn game last weekend, it is the atmosphere and connection with the coaching staff that the Longhorns can build on with Hicks this weekend.
There is plenty of fire that new Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis brings to the table for the Longhorns right now too. After lighting up his players following the embarrassing road loss to the Iowa State Cyclones last weekend, Davis should be able to bring some passion to this visit with Hicks this weekend.
Texas looks to sit among a top group of schools right now with Hicks that also includes the Aggies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Clemson Tigers, and LSU Tigers. But don’t count out some other competing schools for him right now including the Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, and Oregon Ducks.
It is still too early on in his recruitment to completely narrow down his list of top schools to five as it appears now.
Hicks and the five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning are the top two ranked high school prospects in the nation for the 2023 recruiting cycle. These two are also squarely on the Longhorns’ radar at this point of the fall.
