A loss that is still almost impossible to believe for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program at home at DKR on the night of Nov. 13 is a terrible look for this team. Texas had a clear opportunity to snap its four-game losing skid this weekend by taking on the struggling Kansas Jayhawks and head coach Lance Leipold in front of a rowdy atmosphere at home in a night game at DKR.

There was never really a point in this game that felt comfortable for the Longhorns. Kansas jumped out to a big lead by a margin of three possessions in the first half on multiple occasions. And in a weird shift of narratives for the Longhorns, the team actually played much better in the second half compared to the first 30 minutes.

The narrative ahead of this matchup against the Jayhawks was that Sark and the Longhorns couldn’t hold a first-half lead when it mattered most. Texas blew a first-half lead in every single one of its outings in the four-game losing streak ahead of the Kansas game.

But it was the second half against Kansas that saw Texas start to show some signs of life finally. Texas outscored Kansas by a margin of 21 points in the second half. But that was only enough to send the game into overtime.

Texas scored on their first possession of overtime. Kansas would respond, though, and nab a two-point conversion to get the overtime win here by the final score of 57-56.

After such a horrifying loss to extend this skid, here’s a look into five overreactions that can sum up what happened for the Longhorns against the Jayhawks.
