Texas Football: 5 overreactions from the unbelievable OT loss to Kansas
Offensive line was not the issue vs. Kansas
This might be a hot take to some, but the offensive line was not the major issue for the Longhorns in this loss to the Jayhawks. The offensive line play definitely wasn’t perfect, but it was clearly one of the better outings of the season for this group in the trenches.
It was especially encouraging to see four of the five positions along the offensive line hold their own against a motivated Kansas defensive front.
One of the few positives for Texas in this loss to Kansas was the improved play from redshirt senior offensive guard Tope Imade. After having the best performance of his career to date, Imade was one of the highest-graded offensive linemen in the Big 12 in terms of pass blocking this week.
If you combine the play of Imade, redshirt senior offensive tackle Derek Kerstetter, sophomore center Jake Majors, and junior offensive guard Junior Angilau, you get a group that allowed just three quarterback hurries, no sacks, and no QB hits. Imade individually was also the highest-graded Texas offensive linemen in terms of run and pass blocking grades and overall offensive grade.
On the other hand, it is disheartening to see the Texas offensive line come up with one of its better performances of the season and still lose to a team like Kansas. This offensive line held up much better than usual in pass and run blocking. Yet, Texas still had four turnovers and couldn’t get a consistent rhythm on offense for basically an entire half of football.
