Texas Football: 5 overreactions from the unbelievable OT loss to Kansas
How long until Steve Sarkisian’s seat starts to heat up?
There’s nothing really positive that Sark could say from his perspective for the Longhorns following this terrible loss to lowly Kansas. And that was the tone set by him during the postgame press conference after this overtime loss to the Jayhawks.
The fact that Sark largely got outcoached by Leipold on the Jayhawks’ sideline is really lame. Sark’s body language and apparent lack of connection with his own sideline is clearly an issue. Something just isn’t hitting home for the Longhorns, which can lead to historically bad stretches like the program is facing now.
Following the loss to Iowa State, many Longhorns fans were hoping that this program could still find a way to become bowl eligible this fall to get the extra practice time and still find some momentum heading into an important offseason ahead.
Losing to Kansas at the end of a regular season is something that got former Texas head coach Charlie Strong fired quickly. Texas can’t do this with Sark now. Patience has to win the day at this point since he’s locked into a six-year contract. The more than $10 million that Texas owed former head coach Tom Herman would be nothing compared to the buyout that the Longhorns would have to give Sark if they were to let him go sometime in the next 15 months.
Texas needs to see some major change out of Sark next offseason. But it feels like the timer is already set for him to right the ship on the Forty Acres or else his seat will start to heat up very fast. There’s no excusing what the Longhorns are going through right now, and so much of this blame falls on the coaching staff. That all traces back up to the top with Sark.
