You would have to figure that the struggles on the field of late for this program would hurt the results on the trail for the 2022 and 2023 Texas football recruiting classes. Texas and new head coach Steve Sarkisian underwent one of the most embarrassing losses in the last few decades of the program on the night of Nov. 13.

A nearly unbelievable loss for Sark and the Longhorns at the hands of head coach Lance Leipold and the otherwise struggling Kansas Jayhawks gave a peek behind the curtain at what some of these issues within the program could amount to on the field. Change is direly needed next offseason and it’s really hard to imagine that the Longhorns are even going to be bowl eligible this season.

Nonetheless, while this loss could never come at a good time necessarily, the impact that it has on the recruiting trail emphasis how detrimental it could be to the prospects of the 2022 and 2023 classes. Texas hosted multiple key blue-chip prospects that are also big-time targets of the 2022 and 2023 classes this weekend for the Kansas game.

Five-game losing streak reportedly hasn’t hurt Texas football with 5-Star QB Arch Manning

The idea here was that the Longhorns could get a nice bounce-back win in front of a rowdy and energetic atmosphere during a night game at DKR to connect with various recruits. But that’s obviously not what happened on the night of Nov. 13.

The loss to Kansas moves Texas to a record of 4-6 (2-5 Big 12) on the season, which is still hard to believe.

One of the major looming question marks that stems from this five-game losing streak for the Longhorns is how it will impact the program’s fortunes with the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback Arch Manning.

Yet, according to a report from Inside Texas over the weekend (paid content from the On3 Network), the five-game losing streak that the Longhorns now sit on is something that hasn’t really hurt them in Manning’s mind. That is partly hard to believe, but that is good to hear considering how much Texas needs a big splash commitment from a prospect like him in the 2022 and/or 2023 class.

Manning is the most important recruit for the Longhorns in any class at the moment. He ranks as the nation’s top 2023 high school prospect in the 247Sports Composite.
