No news sounds like it is the best news for a while for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program from all that’s gone wrong of late. Texas got the news early this week that was announced in Sark’s Monday press conference on Nov. 15 that there are multiple injuries that will impact the backfield and the secondary through the rest of the regular season.

The most notable of the injuries that Sark announced for the Longhorns in his Monday press conference this week has to do with star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson. Sark announced this week that Bijan will miss the rest of the season as he dislocated his elbow. This is one of multiple injuries that Bijan has dealt with this fall.

Two of the other notable injuries that Sark announced for the Longhorns early this week were to true freshman running back Jonathon Brooks and senior cornerback Josh Thompson. Brooks was mentioned to be week-to-week with his injury, and Thompson will miss the rest of the season.

Texas football will be without RB Bijan Robinson for the rest of the season

Any chance that the Longhorns had of getting to bowl eligibility (which already seemed improbable following the truly horrific overtime loss to the Kansas Jayhawks last weekend) will take a severe hit after this injury news to Bijan. As one of the two true playmakers that were helping this team win games when it has this fall, Bijan was a force to be reckoned with at the skill positions.

This will now place a large emphasis on the shoulders of junior running back Roschon Johnson and redshirt sophomore Keilan Robinson. With both Bijan and Brooks at least out for the next game up for the Longhorns, we could also see more out of the former grad transfer and redshirt senior Gabriel Watson to round out the regular season.

What the Longhorns are losing with Bijan out for the season is a true weapon that Sark was using in multiple phases of the offense. He registered more than 1,100 rushing yards (nearly six yards per carry), 11 rushing touchdowns, just shy of 300 receiving yards, and four touchdown catches this fall.

Following this bad 57-56 overtime loss to Kansas from last weekend, the Longhorns are riding a five-game losing streak. Texas will carry a 4-6 (2-5 Big 12) record into a road meeting with the West Virginia Mountaineers on Nov. 20.
