There is still so much to focus on for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class ahead of the Early Signing Period. Roughly one month away from the start of the Early Signing Period, there are still multiple key blue-chip recruits on the board for Texas to try and win over in the coming weeks.

And it looks like most of the key targets remaining for Sark and the Longhorns 2022 class are going to make their decision ahead of, or during, the Early Signing Period. Although, some will likely keep that timeline between the Early Signing Period and National Signing Day.

A key quarterback target of the Longhorns 2022 class that looks to have a decision timeline set around the Early Signing Period is the four-star USC Trojans commit and Corner Canyon product (UT) Devin Brown.

Brown was recently on an official visit to Texas, which came during the embarrassing loss to the Kansas Jayhawks last weekend. Yet, according to a report from Inside Texas (part of the On3 Network, paid content) this week, that loss to Kansas during Brown’s official visit didn’t really hurt their chances to flip his commitment.

It sounds like Brown still likes the offensive scheme that Sark is trying to build at Texas and his potential fit in it. The biggest hurdle reportedly for Texas at this point with Brown could be two top challenging schools on the recruiting trail.

Ohio State a major reported challenger for Texas football to flip 4-Star QB Devin Brown from USC

There is still a chance that Brown holds firm on his commitment to USC and winds up signing with them in the months ahead. The other reported possibility for Brown, outside of flipping and signing with Texas, is linking up with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The biggest challenger to Texas, outside of USC, at this point, does look to be Ohio State.

Brown is set to have his official visit with the Buckeyes this coming weekend. Ohio State has a huge meeting on tap with head coach Mel Tucker and the No. 7 Michigan State Spartans this weekend. That will truly be an electric atmosphere for Brown to witness during his official visit to Columbus.

All in all, it won’t be long until we know what the intentions of Brown will be. Texas and Ohio State are clear challengers to USC and will impact the ultimate decision that Brown makes.

Texas does currently have one blue-chip quarterback committed in the 2022 class in four-star Junipero Serra product Maalik Murphy. And the expectation is that Murphy will remain a key piece of this 2022 class heading into next offseason. Sark and his staff just want to upgrade the quarterback room from where the personnel is at now.

If Texas ultimately isn’t able to flip the commitment of Brown it won’t be the end of the world. But this would certainly be a nice addition to the Longhorns 2022 class when it’s all said and done.
