Texas is going to have some weapons returning in the receiving corps next year between the duo of redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington and freshman Xavier Worthy. If Texas is eventually able to land a commitment from the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart in the 2022 recruiting class, that would also be another potential starter right away for this offense.

Yet, the odds that Texas is able to get a commitment from, and sign, Stewart appear to be dwindling right now. This is why Texas should have a clear contingency plan as to which wide receivers out of the transfer portal could be a good fit heading into next offseason.

A potential name to watch that is familiar with a lot of the coaches on the Longhorns’ staff is the former blue-chip recruit and junior wide receiver Xavier Williams. While he was rostered with the Alabama Crimson Tide since 2018, he could have three years of eligibility remaining.

Williams was one of the top 150 high school prospects in the nation back during the 2018 recruiting cycle. He got fewer than 100 offensive snaps during his three years playing for Alabama. His ceiling is still very high, though. Williams fits that bill of the speedy and wirey wide receivers that are dangerous in space that are so potent in Sark’s offensive scheme.

Texas can’t really go wrong by adding more speedy and elusive wide receivers like Williams via the transfer portal this offseason. One of the additions last offseason that was a saving grace to this offense at the skill positions was Worthy. Williams could also make an impact to bolster this receiving corps in the image Sark wants it to be in heading into next offseason.
