A hot topic of discussion this week surrounding new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the struggling Texas football program is the potential return of former five-star recruit and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jordan Whittington from injury. Whittington suffered a broken clavicle last month and had to get surgery.

It was more than one month since Whittington last played in a game for the Longhorns. He originally suffered this injury in the collapse of a loss in the Red River Rivalry game against head coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners. In that game, Whittington registered three catches for 35 yards and no touchdowns. He also had eight rushing yards on one carry.

There could be good news on the horizon for Whittington this weekend, though. Sark did mention in one of his weekly press conferences, from back on Nov. 15, that there is a chance that Whittington could play this week as the Longhorns look to snap their lengthy five-game losing streak on the road against head coach Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Another report from Horns247 (paid content) this week confirms that Whittington has practiced throughout the week and is ready to travel with the team to Morgantown, WV, this weekend. That means that Whittington looks to be on pace to return from injury and play against West Virginia on Nov. 20.

If Whittington is able to return from injury this weekend against West Virginia, it is untold what type of impact that could have for this offense. With the overreliance on freshman breakout wide receiver Xavier Worthy of late and redshirt junior Joshua Moore entering the NCAA Transfer Portal last week, Texas is very thin with this position group at the moment.

This is not to mention the fact that the Longhorns now have star sophomore running back Bijan Robinson out for the season.

What Whittington brings back for the Longhorns this weekend against West Virginia from the season so far is 24 catches for 359 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Texas carries a record of 4-6 (2-5 Big 12) into the meeting with West Virginia on the road on Nov. 20.
