Texas Basketball: 3 players that are red hot to start the season
New head coach Chris Beard and No. 8 ranked Texas basketball have not put together the smoothest start to the regular season slate, nor have they found much consistency through three games. Texas was beaten down in the first half last weekend in a huge matchup with head coach Mark Few and the No. 1 ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs.
Beard and the Longhorns also didn’t find it easy to work through an under-the-radar opponent in the Northern Colorado Bears in an eventual double-digit win at home back on Nov. 17. The goal in the next few non-conference games for Beard and the Longhorns has to be establishing some type of rhythm and consistency on both ends of the floor.
The good news here is that the Longhorns get a decent break to get confidence and momentum going against some easier opponents after falling short to Gonzaga last weekend and getting a surprisingly tough test from Northern Colorado.

Next up for Beard and the Longhorns as part of this three-game Abe Lemons Classic, hosted at the Frank Erwin Center this week in Austin, is a meeting with the San Jose State Spartans on the evening of Nov. 20. Texas will carry a record of 2-1 (0-0 Big 12) into this matchup against San Jose State.
Texas has two wins that came over Northern Colorado and the Houston Baptist Huskies in the regular season opener under their belt at this point. It’s clear that the Longhorns need some bigger wins, and more consistency, behind them in the coming weeks before Big 12 play begins.
But Texas does have some key players off to solid starts to hang their hat on at this point. Here’s a look into three Longhorns players that are off to hot starts through three games this season.
