In the next phase of the Abe Lemons Classic at the Frank Erwin Center on Nov. 20, new head coach Chris Beard and No. 8 ranked Texas basketball are getting set to take on the San Jose State Spartans out of the Mountain West Conference. This is the second of three games for Texas in the Abe Lemons Classic, hosted at their home arena in Austin.

The first game for the Longhorns in the Abe Lemons Classic this week resulted in a closer than expected win over the under-the-radar Northern Colorado Bears on the night of Nov. 17. Texas experienced some inconsistencies in that win over Northern Colorado but powered through to get a double-digit triumph in the end.

And the last game remaining for Texas in the Abe Lemons Classic, once they’ve faced San Jose State this weekend, comes against Cal Baptist at the Erwin Center on Nov. 24.

Moreover, Beard and the Longhorns come into this meeting with San Jose State sporting a record of 2-1 (0-0 Big 12). The other win for Texas on the season came over the Houston Baptist Huskies in the regular season opener back on Nov. 9 at home. And the lone loss on the season so far came at the hands of head coach Mark Few and the No. 1 ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs back on Nov. 13.

Meanwhile, San Jose State has struggled out of the gates this season, now sporting a record of 1-2 (0-0 MWC). San Jose State’s last game resulted in a one-point loss in their first leg of the Abe Lemons Classic against Cal Baptist back on Nov. 18.

This is a San Jose State program that wasn’t very good at all in the last two decades. They don’t have a single NCAA Tournament appearance since the mid-1990s.

Here’s a look into three reasons why the Longhorns will crush the Spartans in Austin on Nov. 20.
