Texas football is making strides with 4-Star IOL Kam Dewberry
Heading into the crux of this cycle, new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff are trying to piece together some of the finalizing parts to the 2022 Texas football recruiting class. A few weeks ahead of the Early Signing Period, Texas is looking to seal the deal on a potentially top-five ranked 2022 class.
A key target of the Longhorns 2022 class that is a focal point for Sark and new offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood that will likely have a decision coming up around the Early Signing Period is the touted four-star Atascocita interior offensive lineman Kam Dewberry. As one of the key targets of the Longhorns 2022 class that was on campus for a visit during the weekend of the loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in overtime, Texas looked to be fighting an uphill battle at this point with Dewberry.
Yet, it appears that the Nov. 13 official visit to Texas went over pretty well with Dewberry since then. A report from Horns247 (paid content) expresses that Texas is now largely trending up with Dewberry ahead of the Early Signing Period thanks to a successful official visit during the Kansas game weekend.
Texas football making more and more progress of late with 4-Star IOL Kam Dewberry
Texas is likely to be duking it out with their two biggest rivals on the recruiting trail to decide who will eventually land the commitment of the in-state product Dewberry. The likely other two top schools at this point for Dewberry are reportedly the Texas A&M Aggies and Oklahoma Sooners.
Dewberry also took multiple visits with Texas A&M and Oklahoma since the summer months. It’s hard to exactly nail down who the potential frontrunner could be to land the commitment of Dewberry at the moment as you can make a good case for each of these three top schools.
It is also still worth watching what happens between Dewberry and two other schools that are probably still alive for him. The LSU Tigers and Ohio State Buckeyes were also part of his top five finalist schools. Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma look to have an edge over LSU and Ohio State. But they are still worth noting ahead of the Early Signing Period.
As of Nov. 22, the Longhorns only hold one commitment from a blue-chip offensive lineman in the 2022 class. Given how much help Texas clearly needs in the trenches for this cycle, landing Dewberry would be huge for this 2022 class.
