Can Texas land QB Devin Brown after de-commitment from USC?
Big news keeps rolling in for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program by way of the NCAA Transfer Portal and on the recruiting trail this week. As Texas tries to find something positive to close out the regular season with, there are hopefully some better times ahead if the program can find success recruiting through their 2022 and 2023 classes and via the transfer portal.
Sark, first-year quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee, and the Longhorns did get some big news on the recruiting trail on the night of Nov. 24, though. The now-former USC Trojans commit and four-star Corner Canyon (UT) quarterback Devin Brown officially re-opened his recruitment this week.
Brown is one of the biggest remaining targets on the recruiting trail for the Longhorns 2022 class at this point of the fall. He definitely could be a game-changer if he were to essentially flip his commitment to land in the Longhorns 2022 class in the near future.
Texas football pushing for the commitment of 4-Star QB Devin Brown after de-commitment from USC
Brown took to his Twitter timeline on the evening/night of Nov. 24 to announce his de-commitment from USC officially. It now looks like there could be two to three schools involved in the recruitment of Brown ahead of the Early Signing Period in a few weeks.
It does look like the top schools remaining in the race to land a commitment from Brown are Texas and the Ohio State Buckeyes. You also can’t count out head coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels in the running for Brown at this point.
Brown was just on campus for an official visit in Columbus with Ohio State last weekend for their massive win over head coach Mel Tucker and the Michigan State Spartans. He was also in Austin for an official visit two weekends ago when Texas had that embarrassing overtime loss to the Kansas Jayhawks back on Nov. 13.
Nonetheless, it appears that Texas still very much remains a frontrunner in the race to land a commitment from Brown. But the timing of his de-commitment from USC after the official visit with Ohio State last weekend does give the valid thought that the gap between the Longhorns and Buckeyes probably isn’t all that large.
Texas, Ohio State, and Ole Miss will be duking it out ahead of the Early Signing Period to win over the interests of Brown. As one of the biggest remaining targets on the board for the Longhorns 2022 class, Brown is one to watch with an intent eye in the weeks ahead. I do believe Texas still has a coin flip’s chance at worst to land Brown’s pledge when it’s all said and done. But beating out the Buckeyes definitely won’t be an easy task.
