Timmy Allen and Christian Bishop will be too much for the Lancers’ forwards to handle

Two of the most impressive Longhorns players to start out the regular season are two additions out of the NCAA Transfer Portal last offseason for Beard and his staff. Texas hauled in the likes of the former Utah Utes standout junior forward Timmy Allen and Creighton Blue Jays versatile junior forward Christian Bishop out of the transfer portal in the spring.

And this duo of transfer portal additions has proved to pay dividends immediately for Beard and the Longhorns. This duo of senior forwards played well for the Longhorns in the win over San Jose State too.

In all likelihood, we’re either going to see one or both of Allen and Bishop in the starting unit for Texas against Cal Baptist. Bishop has started in half of the four games out of the gates this season for Texas. And Allen has started in all four.

And barring the 6-foot-9 senior big man Daniel Akin, there’s not a whole lot of length and/or athleticism to speak of on the Lancers’ side. Even playing some small-ball lineups in this game, Texas should be able to win the battle on the boards.

Bishop has also proved to be a real force to be reckoned with in the paint on defense. Both Bishop and Allen are solid rebounders and on-ball defenders, but being as disruptive in the paint as they are out of the gates this season is a very pleasant surprise.
