4 Texas players that are great fits with Steve Sarkisian
Junior Angilau, G
Turning the attention to the offensive side of the ball, the one offensive lineman that Texas would love to get back next year is definitely the former four-star recruit and junior guard Junior Angilau. There are really only two offensive linemen throughout the fall that were steady and reliable blockers in front of the likes of Hudson Card and Casey Thompson.
The first, and probably the best offensive lineman for the Longhorns this year, among this duo was redshirt senior offensive tackle, Derek Kerstetter. But Angilau was pretty solid for the Longhorns so far this season too. The problem for Angilau was the fact that he’s played through various injury issues for the last three or four games.
In fact, Angilau really had some injury struggles since the loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks way back on Sep. 11. The injury issues came and went for Angilau this fall, but he did look really uncomfortable in the Longhorns road loss earlier this month to the Iowa State Cyclones.
Nonetheless, most games still saw Angilau hold up pretty well this fall. He’s also been a steady rock in the run-blocking game this season. He is the second-highest graded run blocker for the Longhorns this season. And that’s not just among offensive linemen, that’s for every single Longhorns player.
If Angilau can stay healthy and returns for Texas in 2022, all he really needs to do is cut down on some of the pressures allowed. Angilau did allow just one sack this fall, but he did allow seven additional quarterback hits which is not ideal. This is fixable for Angilau, though, and it will be interesting to see if the true nature of all of the injuries that he suffered through this fall come out next offseason.
