3 costliest de-commitments in Texas’ 2022 recruiting class
Bad news arrived on the trail in the last two days for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class in the form of two de-commitments. Texas saw the likes of four-star Tyler Legacy running back Jamarion Miller and four-star Lewisville wide receiver Armani Winfield de-commit from the 2022 recruiting class essentially within the span of just 24 hours on Thanksgiving Day and then Black Friday (Nov. 25 and 26).
This was a really interesting roller coaster ride of two days for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns 2022 class on the recruiting trail since the start of Thanksgiving Day. When you see the de-commitment of two blue-chip skill position prospects in the span of roughly 24 hours, it’s hard to imagine anything positive coming out of it.
Yet, the Longhorns did salvage something in the sense that they did land a re-commitment from one of their higher-rated blue-chips in the 2022 class now. Texas flipped back the commitment of four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau from the TCU Horned Frogs after the departure of longtime head coach Gary Patterson.
Jamarion Miller and Armani Winfield both potentially flipping commitments clearly hurts Texas football
After losing the commitments of Winfield and Miller, and getting a re-commitment from Guilbeau, the Longhorns are now sitting at 21 commits in the 2022 class. Just a few weeks ahead of the Early Signing Period, the Longhorns still own a top 10 ranked group in the National Class Rankings (per 247Sports Team Composite Rankings).
Texas does need to close out this recruiting cycle strong, but there were more setbacks than gains during the holiday week. And there are some very notable de-commitments among the skill positions in the Longhorns 2022 class up to this point. Here’s a look at the three costliest.
