As we move closer and closer to the beginning of the Early Signing Period next month for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, there are some major looming storylines. Texas and new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff must get down to work to start getting this 2022 class rounded out during the Early Signing Period.

While there will at least be a few key prospects that are left on the board for the Longhorns 2022 class after the Early Signing Period, but before National Signing Day, that won’t be the bulk of them. Texas needs to have most of its 2022 signing class figured out by the end of the Early Signing Period next month.

Figuring out contingencies in the case that the Longhorns are to whiff on any of their top targets for the 2022 class in the weeks ahead is an important looming task in the next few days. One name that seems to already be emerging with some connection to the Longhorns is the three-star Grayson (GA) defensive back and West Virginia Mountaineers commit Mumu Bin-Wahad.

This 6-foot and 180-pound defensive back remained committed to West Virginia since June, but there seem to be some rumors coming about that Texas is looking into sending him an offer.

Texas football has a new name to watch potentially in 3-Star WVU DB commit Mumu Bin-Wahad

Considering the fact that Bin-Wahad took a bit of a spur-of-the-moment visit with the Washington Huskies late last month (per 247Sports report, paid content), it looks like he is still open to exploring some other options. And another 247Sports report (paid content) from Nov. 28 indicated that there seems to be some noise with this defensive back for the Longhorns of late.

It feels like this is enough buzz, along with some other leading indicators, to think that Bin-Wahad could be a potential contingency target for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail in the weeks ahead. Texas is pushing hard to flip the commitment of four-star Ohio State Buckeyes pledge and in-state cornerback Terrance Brooks before the Early Signing Period.

Another one of the biggest targets remaining on the board at this point for the Longhorns 2022 class is the elite five-star North Shore cornerback Denver Harris.

While getting in contact with someone like Bin-Wahad in the days and weeks ahead doesn’t necessarily mean that Texas has given up with those two top cornerback targets, it would make sense. Texas needs to make sure they have the secondary rounded out in the 2022 class, even if they don’t land either Harris or Brooks when it’s all said and done.

Texas does currently sit with two cornerback commits, and one blue-chip safety commit, at the moment in the 2022 class. The highest-rated defensive backs in the 2022 class right now include four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau and four-star Denton-Ryan safety Austin Jordan.
