Texas hosting 3-Star OU commit Xavion Brice on official visit this week
This is going to be a very active month (even more so than originally anticipated) for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class in December. A few weeks ahead of the Early Signing Period, Texas still has a good number of slots to fill in the 2022 class.
And with all of the recent turbulence surrounding the Oklahoma Sooners with the departure of now-former head coach Lincoln Riley to take the job with the USC Trojans over the weekend, there are some prospects that the Longhorns could snag from Norman. One name that is emerging of late that is important to watch moving forward is the under-the-radar three-star Arlington-Seguin wide receiver/athlete and current Oklahoma commit Xavion Brice.
As someone who received a Texas offer during the summer, Brice was on the Longhorns big board essentially during the visit season at one point last offseason. But the contact was never too frequent between the Longhorns and Brice it seems on a consistent basis.
Texas football gets an OV on the books with 3-Star OU WR/ATH commit Xavion Brice
Brice would commit to Oklahoma in early July 2021. After that point, it looks like the contact with Brice essentially dropped off completely. With Texas needing more help at the skill positions, and the likelihood that Brice will de-commit from Oklahoma increasing after Riley’s departure, this connection makes sense to revitalize.
And that looks to be just what Texas is doing right now.
According to a report from Horns247 (paid content), Texas had an in-home visit with Brice this week and got him on the books for an official visit in the next few days. Texas is reportedly one of four schools that Brice is working on getting visits scheduled for in the weeks ahead.
The other three are the TCU Horned Frogs, Houston Cougars, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
It also wouldn’t be too surprising to see Brice get a visit with the Baylor Bears in the next few weeks. Baylor is another school pushing hard to get a visit with Brice ahead of the Early Signing Period.
Texas missing out on the commitment of the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart essentially opened the door for any number of possibilities for what to do at this position in the 2022 class. Stewart was definitely the Longhorns’ top target at wideout in the 2022 class.
It also hurt the Longhorns that four-star Lewisville wide receiver Armani Winfield officially de-committed from the 2022 class last week. Texas has one blue-chip wide receiver commit remaining the 2022 class at this moment.
