There is a real opportunity for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class to take advantage of the wave of turbulence on the trail with the rival Oklahoma Sooners after the departure of now-former head coach Lincoln Riley last weekend. Riley shocked the college football landscape on Nov. 28 when the news broke that he would bolt from Norman, OK, to become the next head coach with the USC Trojans.

The news that Riley is leaving Norman for the apparently greener pastures of southern California presents a major possibility for the Longhorns on the recruiting trail to pick up on the potential mass exodus of de-commits from Oklahoma’s 2022 class. Texas could be one of the biggest beneficiaries of Riley leaving Oklahoma for USC on the recruiting trail and in the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Texas football can snag some current/former Oklahoma commits post-Lincoln Riley

This also comes at an opportune time for the Longhorns, who are trying to round out their 2022 class ahead of the Early Signing Period later this month. Texas recently had an unfortunate string of events on the recruiting trail, including missing out on a key pair of blue-chip prospects that were big-time targets of their 2022 class.

The two key targets that the Longhorns missed out for their 2022 class of late include five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart, who committed to the Texas A&M Aggies, and four-star Corner Canyon (UT) quarterback Devin Brown, who committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Here’s a look into three current/former Oklahoma commits that the Longhorns should try and flip in the aftermath of Riley’s departure from Norman to be the next USC head coach.
