On the night of Dec. 5, the 2022 Texas football recruiting class got a big addition that can help reverse some recent negative momentum for this group. Texas and new head coach Steve Sarkisian had lost three commitments since landing their last commitment, which came late last month in the form of four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau.

Next up for Sark and the Longhorns in the 2022 class was a commitment on Dec. 5 from the former Oklahoma Sooners four-star linebacker commit and Lubbock-Cooper product Kobie McKinzie. Texas got a nice addition to the 2022 class just a couple of weeks ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period to cap the weekend.

The commitment of McKinzie came via a post on his Instagram page on the night of Dec. 5. This decision in favor of Texas for McKinzie came over the likes of the Sooners, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Texas A&M Aggies.
