Depending on what happens with Ewers, there is one thing that could change in regard to how Sark and the Longhorns treat the quarterback situation in the transfer portal throughout the remainder of the offseason. If Texas does miss out on Ewers, it could encourage them to find another potential program-changer that has a very high ceiling.

The problem with that clearly is that no one is going to have that same ceiling and marketability as Ewers right away.

There are other options, though, among quarterbacks that could still have a bright future ahead. Think about the type of potential that Texas could have in their quarterback room if they brought in the likes of Ewers, Murphy, and the former Tennessee Volunteers blue-chip recruit Harrison Bailey.

The 6-foot-5 and 220-pound Tennessee sophomore Bailey was also recruited by Sark when he was the offensive coordinator with the Alabama Crimson Tide. That connection could come back if Sark and the Longhorns wanted to pursue Bailey out of the transfer portal.

Bailey never really got a chance to make a sustained impact with Tennessee, so a change of scenery is probably the right move. I would honestly say regardless if Texas were to land a commitment from Ewers, Bailey could be someone worth target if Sark wants to add another quarterback anyway.

He could add solid depth at the quarterback position and still offer the Longhorns someone with a big arm and a high ceiling in case something were to not work out with Ewers and/or Murphy.
