Dillon Gabriel

Likely the most proven quarterback in the transfer portal right now is the former UCF Knights star junior signal-caller Dillon Gabriel. During his three years playing for UCF, Gabriel registered 70 passing touchdowns, 14 interceptions, more than 8,000 passing yards, and a solid 156.9 passer efficiency rating.

While it looks like the favorite to land a commitment from Gabriel right now out of the transfer portal is head coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels, there is still a shot for other programs to get in on the mix to pursue him.

Gabriel would be more of a contingency plan for the Longhorns if Ewers were to choose to take his talents to Lubbock. I will still reiterate that I think Ewers probably lands with Texas when he makes his decision (likely by Dec. 13), but Gabriel would definitely be a good second option.

In the case that Texas misses out on Ewers, it would be foolish not to at least reach out to Gabriel to see what his interests in the Longhorns are. He was one of the best quarterbacks out of the Group of Five in the last two and a half seasons or so. And he’s going to be the starting quarterback at some notable Power Five program next season.

Texas couldn’t find a much more proven veteran signal-caller in the transfer portal to make an immediate impact in 2022 and beyond than Gabriel.
