Predicting Texas’ next 2022 commit after 5-Star OT Kelvin Banks
Devon Campbell, IOL
For the past two weeks, it looked like the top targets on the board among offensive linemen for the Longhorns 2022 class were Banks and fellow elite five-star prospect/Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell. The uber-talented and potent 6-foot-3 and 310-pound in-state product Campbell now looks to be the top remaining uncommitted prospect for the Longhorns 2022 class ahead of the Early Signing Period.
After landing the commitment of Banks this weekend, Sark and Flood can officially turn their attention to Campbell. There are some leading indicators too that the Longhorns are in line to be the top school in the race to land a commitment from Campbell.
The fact that Campbell elected to pass on visits that he had planned at different points with the Georgia Bulldogs and USC Trojans this weekend bodes really well for Texas. But we still don’t know if Campbell will be announcing his decision before, or during, the Early Signing Period. In the last few months, it looked like Campbell would wait to announce that decision.
All five expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions now predict Campbell to give his commitment to the Longhorns. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking Campbell to land at Texas.
Texas also had an in-home visit with Campbell heading into the weekend, which likely means that the coaching staff gave their final in-person pitch to him. It sounds like Campbell is done taking visits and is now contemplating his final decision.
Look for USC and Georgia to have an outside shot with Campbell. But his final decision is likely to boil down to the Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners, and Alabama Crimson Tide.
