If there was one name to watch that I firmly believe could be the next addition out of the transfer portal, and it could happen in the next couple of weeks, I would name a former teammate with the Ohio State Buckeyes of Ewers. Former Ohio State redshirt freshman cornerback and blue-chip recruit Ryan Watts is definitely a name to watch in the transfer portal right now.

Watts put his name in the transfer portal on Dec. 10, and it looked like Texas made him a priority right away. It’s pretty clear at this point that Watts is one of the few players in the transfer portal now that the Longhorns are openly pursuing ahead of the start of the Early Signing Period on Dec. 15.

Texas was one of the schools in on Watts early on in his recruitment. It was mainly the Buckeyes and Oklahoma Sooners that were in on the recruitment of Watts when it was all said and done.

But there are other connections on this Texas coaching staff that could bring this communication back smoothly back with Watts. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were one of the top schools for Watts while Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph was on staff in South Bend.

Texas could get a nice boost at the cornerback position by bringing in someone that made an early impact for Ohio State this fall in Watts. There are a number of areas in Watts’ game where he still needs to improve, but that is to be expected for a redshirt freshman.

Watts could compete right away for a starting cornerback role with the Longhorns in 2022 if he lands here, along with returning senior D’Shawn Jamison.

What Watts brings with him from his two years at Ohio State are 11 combined tackles, two stops, no pass breakups, and one interception.
