Savion Red, WR/RB

The more I watch of the former SMU Mustangs commit and three-star Grand Prairie wide receiver/running back Savion Red, the more I like what he could bring to the table for the Longhorns 2022 class. Set to announce his decision on the first day of the Early Signing Period (Dec. 15), Red could soon be in the Longhorns 2022 class.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex native and 5-foot-10 and 210-pound two-sport athlete Red is definitely an underrated prospect for this cycle. And all of the discussion surrounding his recruitment is that he is a definite take for Texas.

Even I got fooled a bit by Texas offering Red after missing out on a commitment from the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart to the Texas A&M Aggies. Red could be a versatile addition for the Longhorns in the 2022 class. It is pretty clear at this point that Texas could want Red playing at running back or wide receiver. His frame shows he could have that type of versatile fit at the skill positions for Texas.

Pretty much all signs point to Red committing to Texas during the Early Signing Period. He could add much-needed depth at the skill positions in the 2022 class and could fill other holes depending on how things play out with other wide receiver and running back prospects in the 2022 class at this point.

If there were any targets of the Longhorns 2022 class that I’m confident Sark and his staff could get on the first signing day this week, it’s Red. He is certainly a name to watch moving forward, especially given how he might be able to turn some heads early on in spring ball compared to how expectations could play out for him given his recruiting ranking.
