Predicting Texas’ next 2022 commit during the signing period
Larry Turner-Gooden, ATH/S
The next prospect up on the list that is a key target of the Longhorns 2022 class at this point of the recruiting cycle is also one that comes with a bit of an asterisk. The former Arizona State Sun Devils commit and four-star Bishop Alemany athlete/safety Larry Turner-Gooden is certainly a name to watch for the Longhorns moving forward.
But it looks like Turner-Gooden already made his decision silently on the first signing day this week. And he will be announcing his decision next month (specifically on Jan. 8). Knowing how much momentum Texas was gaining in pursuit of the commitment of Turner-Gooden in the weeks leading up to the signing period, it’s very possible that the coaching staff already has a pledge from him.
Granted, that’s all conjecture right now until we publicly hear his decision next month.
The main question mark surrounding the recruitment of Turner-Gooden for the Longhorns of late surrounded the numbers situation in the 2022 class. Since Texas is already up to 27 commits in the 2022 class, we didn’t know where Turner-Gooden would fall in the pecking order of potential targets that the staff wanted in the mix.
If Texas does feel that Turner-Gooden is a definite take, then there’s a great chance that he could announce a commitment to Texas early next month. This will be an interesting one to watch come early January.
It looks like the decision of Turner-Gooden could either go to the USC Trojans or the Colorado Buffaloes if he passes on the Longhorns.
