3 best landing spots for Texas transfer TE Jared Wiley
The most recent player out of the Texas football program to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal came on the morning of Dec. 17 from junior tight end and former three-star recruit Jared Wiley. The third-year 6-foot-7 and 255-pound tight end put his name in the transfer portal after getting a healthy amount of snaps on offense in the last couple of seasons.
Wiley actually looked to be the most experienced returning tight end for head coach Steve Sarkisian and special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks in 2022. With redshirt senior tight end Cade Brewer out of eligibility following the conclusion of the season that was, Texas is now set to lose their two most experienced players at the position heading into the offseason.
Sark and the Longhorns are now in a spot where they’ll have to turn some younger players in the tight end room in 2022. That is unless the Longhorns turn to the transfer portal to get help brought in for the tight end position this offseason upon the losses of Wiley and Brewer.
Texas football sees junior TE Jared Wiley enter the transfer portal heading into the weekend
Over the course of the last two seasons combined, Wiley took more than 550 offensive snaps. And in his three years playing for Texas, Wiley registered 19 catches for 248 receiving yards (13.1 yards per catch) and three receiving touchdowns.
The manner in which Wiley posted about entering the transfer portal early this offseason would indicate that he’s very likely not going to return to the Forty Acres in 2022. It sounds like he is going to take his talents elsewhere, and he’s not just exploring the options available to him in the portal.
With that in mind, here’s a look into three potential landing spots for Wiley out of the transfer portal this offseason.
