Nebraska

Another viable landing spot for Thompson out of the transfer portal heading into the offseason that makes sense for all parties involved possibly is with head coach Scott Frost and the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big Ten. Frost recruited Thompson heavily when he was coming out of high school during the 2018 cycle.

But that was back when Frost was still the head coach with the UCF Knights. The following year, Frost would take the head coaching job with the Huskers. There is an opportunity here, though, for Frost to try and right the ship in what might be his final year in Lincoln in 2022 as he is going to be on one of the hottest seats in the entire country.

Granted, it feels like we say that about Frost at Nebraska every single season for the last few years.

Moreover, knowing that Lincoln is still pretty close to home for the Oklahoma native Thompson, and he could compete to be the starting quarterback right away, shows why this makes sense as a landing spot for him. He was drawn in by Frost’s pitch and his fit in that offensive scheme when the current Nebraska head coach was with UCF.

Maybe Thompson feels that he could be part of the solution for the Huskers’ woes in 2022 and potentially 2023.

Nebraska did lose their multi-year starter at quarterback in senior Adrian Martinez for the transfer portal heading into their offseason. Martinez actually landed in the Big 12 with head coach Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats. Nebraska might be able to turn to a former Big 12 starting quarterback in the transfer portal to find their replacement for Martinez in 2022.
