4 best transfer landing spots for former Texas QB Casey Thompson
Oregon
We’ll often talk about the fact that Thompson has proved this fall that he belongs among the ranks of the Power Five starting quarterbacks. Before the thumb injury in the midst of the Big 12 slate this fall, Thompson was putting up some very impressive numbers, and that is going to catch the attention of other solid programs that need help at the quarterback position this offseason.
And maybe the biggest program that could get involved in the mix to land a commitment from Thompson out of the transfer portal heading into the offseason is the Oregon Ducks and new head coach Dan Lanning.
The former Georgia Bulldogs defensive coordinator Lanning is trying to keep Oregon at the top of the PAC-12 as he inherits a talented roster that will need to figure out its quarterback situation heading into the offseason. Oregon got a really up and down season out of the former Boston College Eagles transfer quarterback Anthony Brown.
Considering the fact that Thompson has more proven production coming out of the transfer portal, and a higher ceiling, than Brown did coming out of Boston College, it would make sense that Eugene is thought here. Thompson could still give the Ducks a dual-threat quarterback, but one that is more accurate and better at throwing on the run.
Brown looks to be about to run out of eligibility anyway, so Oregon will likely be seeking quarterback help out of the portal. Oregon offered Thompson coming out of high school, so this could be a connection to watch moving forward.
