Brenen Thompson, WR

Although the Longhorns didn’t wind up hauling in a commitment from the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart in their 2022 class, there is still one key blue-chip pledge at the position that will be huge for Sark. Stewart wound up giving his commitment to Texas A&M over the likes of Texas and the Alabama Crimson Tide, but this is something the Longhorns should be able to recover from.

That is largely due to the fact that Texas looks to have such a good fit between the touted and speedy four-star Spearman (TX) athlete/wide receiver Brenen Thompson. While Stewart is certainly a speedy and elusive threat in the open field, it’s clear that Thompson is just a straight-up faster wide receiver if we’re talking about track-level speed.

Thompson should be a big play threat right away for the Longhorns given the insane speed he could have if he gets the ball in his hands with room to run. He could also be a deep pass threat along with the likes of freshman star Xavier Worthy and redshirt freshman Troy Omeire (if he ever gets healthy).

Texas clearly needs some depth help at the wide receiver position. And there might not be a single bigger boost that Texas gets to the receiving corps from the 2022 class than Thompson. His lean build and speed and acceleration make him a great fit in Sark’s offensive scheme. If Sark trusts Thompson to work out of the slot, or get the ball around the line of scrimmage next fall, watch out for him to make some big plays in 2022.
