Florida State targeting former Texas WR Joshua Moore in the portal
One of the more high-profile former Texas football players in the NCAA Transfer Portal at this point of the offseason is the former blue-chip recruit and redshirt junior wide receiver Joshua Moore. A two-year starter for Texas, Moore could definitely be an immediate impact player wherever his next landing spot is.
Moore put his name in the transfer portal back on Nov. 8, just a little more than halfway through this season for the Longhorns. Texas had Moore as one of the three starting wideouts throughout much of the season. He started out the season as one of the starting outside receivers.
The other two starting receivers for most of the season for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns were freshman breakout star Xavier Worthy and redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington.
Yet, the fit never looked quite right between Moore and the current Longhorns coaching staff. That led to him putting his name in the transfer portal early last month. And he still has yet to find his next landing spot out of the transfer portal.
Florida State reportedly going after former Texas football WR Joshua Moore
Moore isn’t likely going to have too much trouble finding another landing spot he fits well in. The only question remains does he stay in the Power Five or move down to the Group of Five in 2022?
There is a potential indicator of one school going after Moore now in the transfer portal. According to a report from 247Sports this week (paid content), the Florida State Seminoles and head coach Mike Norvell have contacted Moore since he put his name in the transfer portal.
It sounds like Florida State is making Moore one of their biggest targets at the wide receiver position in the transfer portal too. Florida State was really young at wide receiver this fall, so bringing in more proven experience at the position looks to be a priority for Norvell and his staff this offseason.
It just seems like Florida State needs more playmakers at the wide receiver position in general in 2022. Moore could help provide a more proven target that can play on the outside for the Noles.
In his three years playing for Texas, Moore registered 61 catches for 790 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. His best individual season came under former Texas head coach Tom Herman in 2020, where he registered 30 catches for 472 receiving yards and a team-leading nine touchdown catches.
Texas and Florida State both fell short of expectations on the field in 2021. Each program finished up the regular season with a record of 5-7, missing bowl eligibility.
