Former Texas WR Joshua Moore transfers to Texas Tech
After putting his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal last month, former redshirt junior Texas football wide receiver Joshua Moore found his next landing spot on Dec. 23. Just ahead of the Christmas holiday, Moore announced on his Twitter timeline on the night of Dec. 23 that he will be taking his talents to join new head coach Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
On the same day that I covered the Florida State Seminoles and head coach Mike Norvell targeting Moore out of the transfer portal, he found his next landing spot. And he will be staying in the Big 12 at his next landing spot in Lubbock.
This is the second former Longhorn to put his name in the transfer portal and eventually land in Lubbock. The other is the former five-star recruit and junior safety Tyler Owens. There are also now three former Longhorn transfers that landed with another Big 12 program with Moore transferring to Texas Tech.

The other one that transferred to another Big 12 program that is not Texas Tech is the former four-star linebacker recruit and true freshman Terrence Cooks, who landed with the TCU Horned Frogs.
If the early indications are telling of what’s to come for some Longhorns players putting their name in the transfer portal this offseason, we’re likely to see more leave for other Big 12 programs.
What Moore brings to the table for the Red Raiders out of the transfer portal is nearly 800 career receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. His best season came in 2020 when he registered a team-leading nine receiving touchdowns. But the fit just didn’t appear to be smooth between Moore and the new Texas coaching staff in 2021.
Ironically enough, one of the best games of Moore’s career with the Longhorns came against the Red Raiders last fall. In Texas’ late comeback win over Texas Tech in overtime last year, Moore was clutch for this team catching three touchdowns, along with 70 receiving yards.
Throughout much of the 2021 campaign, Moore was one of the three starting wideouts for Texas. He was a starter on the outside for much of the season along with freshman breakout star Xavier Worthy and redshirt sophomore Jordan Whittington.
Texas finished up the 2021 regular season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12) following their win in the finale over the Kansas State Wildcats on Black Friday. Meanwhile, Texas Tech is preparing to face the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Liberty Bowl after finishing up the regular season with a record of 6-6 (3-6 Big 12).
